School Based Programs
For more than a decade, primarily in cooperation with the CSSS Pierrefonds, AMCAL has been a recognized leader in the community for offering structured, preventative programs for schools. The following program was developed for use in the Lester B. Pearson & Marguerite Bourgeois School Boards, but is also available on request, on a fee-for-service basis, to other schools in the Montreal area.
1. Social Skills à la Carte: tools for schools and students…an ounce of prevention.
This highly interactive program, designed uniquely by AMCAL in response to extensive consultation with our clients, is offered for elementary-aged students. The goal of this eight-week program is to help students develop positive social skills, strong relationships with peers & family, & peaceful solutions to problems.
School principals are invited to choose from a 12-item menu of skills, adapted for any level from Kindergarten to Grade 6, according to the priorities & needs identified in their particular context.

2. Families First: linking home & school...
Sometimes a child’s success at school is dependent on addressing issues of family dynamics at home. For the past 14 years, AMCAL has offered the Families First Program to identified school aged children in the CSSS Pierrefonds territory. This is a short-term, 10-session program that includes:
- home visits, to support the parents and provide tools & strategies to help the child
- liaison between the school and the family (e.g. classroom observations, conferences with school personnel), to discuss progress & identify further needs of the child & family
- referrals to other community resources, when appropriate.
At AMCAL, we are committed to collaborating with other professionals and community organizations to help our clients.
Schools: LBPSB, Margeurite Bourgeois
