Family Counselling
1. Outreach Family Counselling: preserving healthy families…
AMCAL’s Outreach Family Counselling Program, for youth aged 7-17 years, may be the short-term intensive program you need to help you address issues of family dynamics, identify your family’s strengths, & develop strategies that help your family prevent more serious problems.
The program is divided into four-week contracts, for a maximum of 3 contracts per year (i.e. 12 weeks of family counselling).
Ask yourself: is your family struggling with any of the following ingredients that are common in healthy family relationships?
- a supportive & nurturing home environment
- trust & mutual respect among all family members
- consistent parenting
- effective family communication
- clear expectations for parents & children/teens
- appropriate boundaries between parents & children/teens
- a collaborative approach to coping with conflict
Remember: for parents who care, AMCAL is there.

2. Emerging Adults Program: strengthening families…
Do you have a twenty something adult child who seems “stuck” making the transition from adolescence to adulthood? In 2011, in response to requests from the community, AMCAL developed Emerging Adults, to address the needs of adult children (i.e. aged 18-30 years) still living in the family home.
The nine-week program is divided into three parts:
- 3 sessions with the parents & emerging adult
- 3 sessions with the parents only
- 3 sessions with the emerging adult only
The goal is to support family members in setting boundaries and goals, and to develop a long-term plan—so the young person can function better as an adult & the family can establish a new equilibrium.
